I have been changing oil and filter every 50 hours with Rotella Synthetic oil and a new Kubota oil filter.The manual says to use 15W-40 above (I believe) 14 degrees F or something like that. I can use 10W-30 at pretty much all temperatures. Many people use 15W-40 all the time which may explain why you got what you got.
