They have limited survivability and do less that a third of the damage of a modded mech/archgun but that is enough to get you through the first 12ish Orphix which completes a reward rotation.Bonewidow is better for Orphix, Voidrig is better for Open World Bosses. I also personally prefer Bonewidow, because all of its Abilities have some use, whereas Voidrig's 1 and 3 might as well not exist. Also, even though Bonewidow's Melee Animations are clunky and restrictive, I'd rather have that over being immobile with Voidrig.

Pretty confident that damaged mechs would be less of an issue if they were put just outside the Orphix field. Getting in and out of summoned mechs is going to happen inside the Orphix area, so moving the damaged mechs seems like a pretty simple solution that wouldn't involve any particularly special coding on DE's part.
