Sizing a ridge beam.

I am seeking to add a supplemental structural ridge beam under a ridge board in an old garage, which has some roof sagging (3-4"). It's got 2x8 rafters, 4/12 pitch, and just a 2x8 ridge board with no rafter ties and just a few collar ties. Span is 24'. We would like to drywall the underside of the "cathedral" type ceiling.
