The dealer flashed the TSB concerning the problem and it went away. A few weeks ago the light started coming on again, concurrently with the 'traction control off' light.The Jeep Patriot Limp Mode will limit vehicle speed and acceleration to protect the transmission. That is normal. This is actually a good way to see if the system is in the "ready" state if you disconnect your battery to clear a code. If you turn the key to "On", the CEL will blink several times. I had to disconnect the battery and afterwards the defrost light will blink for about 10-20 seconds when the vehicle is started. Nothing will work while the defrost light is blinking but once it stops, all hvac controls will work.
