I used standard LED's on all my turn signals. I changed out the rear turn signals with some canbus correct they have a chip built into the base, they stopped the hyper flash on the rest of the turn signals. the cost on Amazon was about $7 and change, much cheaper than any of the good resisters and no over heating. If I understand your drawing, the LED light is a 3-terminal device - ground, turn signal, running light. I would assume you would put the current limit resistor on the ground side, so that both lighting conditions (turn signal and running light) have the resistor in the circuit.
