IMO a gun with the JM stamp will hold it's value much better than a gun without it. Basically because the JM stamp represents Marlin quality.

Marlin 1894 chambered in 44 magnum/special. This rifle has the JM stamp and was made in 1977. The Marlin "bullseye" on the buttstock has been removed and a swivel stud has been installed in its place. It is in very good overall condition but has a few handling marks throughout. This is the presafety model that is more desirable for collectors.

Remington (Freedom Group) did a serious disservice to the Marlin brand, by producing rifles that were sub standard, for a long time. Consumers, recognized the many flaws and in this age of the Internet, word spread fast and sales suffered. I feel, that due to this, people just don't trust in buying any Marlin made past 2009.
