I also had the two plastic elbows replaced as well as the gasket under the supercharger. I supplied the upgraded intake gaskets, plastic elbows, valve cover gaskets, oil and filter. I had planned on tackling the UIM kit replacement sometime in the future, as this engine has 150k on it, and I guess the future is now... IMPORTANT! It will be necessary to replace the original EGR tube located in the lower intake manifold. Remove the original tube by using a twisting action. Match the appropriate sized replacement tube (3/4 or 5/8) in the kit to the original. It runs really good except at idle, it doesn’t idle smooth and runs at around 800-900 rpm. I pull the codes and get p0171 – Bank 1 too lean. The fuel trim is staying around 15-20% and doesn’t fluctuate with higher RPMs. The upstream o2 sensor is reading around .05 and not really fluctuating, so I immediately suspect a vacuum leak.

Any minor radiator or heater core clogging in the 3800 can become fully clogged up with the tabs and almost imposible to clear. These 3800 non supercharged and ford 4.6/5.4 injectors get pretty dirty by 70k,typical Bosch design.The Delphi SC injectors flow so much they very rarely clog and mostly only need an in tank cleaner if anything.
03-05-2021. the key is keeping coolant out of the lifter valley. remove the t-stat housing and use a shop vac to suck all the coolant out of the LIM before you lift it off. there are a lot of write up on this, so you should be able to do it in a day. --. The UIM(upper intake manifold) gasket is the one between the LIM and UIM. The 2.8/3.1 V6 engines are notorious for LIM gasket failure. In a nut shell most GM V-engines have LIM gasket issues. GM just went a little cheap on the gasket design. The UIM gasket is not the issue so much on the 3800 seriesII as it is the UIM plenum itself that fails.
GM has issued a number of technical service bulletins describing the problem and recommended repairs (which may require replacing the intake manifold bolts as well as the gaskets).
