Sep 25, 2011 · #1. What kind of lube do I use in a 205 T-case? I have an old Ford shop manual and it says to use 50wt engine oil----I will be driving this truck in winter -20 cold and summer 90 heat. Also how much lube is needed? The NP205 is identified by several features: 1. The transfer case is one piece of cast iron. There is a short bearing retainer/output housing at the tail of the case, and aluminum bearing retainers/seal retainers at the front and rear outputs but the working parts are all in a single iron housing. 2. The Casing. As a general rule, the iron case was a dead giveaway to the NP205 transfer cases. For one thing, the NP205 weighs nearly 140 lbs, while the stock NP208 has an aluminum casing and weighs around half as much. Many owners get confused with the NP205 and 203, but there are some ways to tell them apart visually.

The NP205 is a part time, cast iron transfer case with a figure eight front bolt pattern configuration. This assembly was used in 1971-79 vehicles. Transmission. But in 80 they also redesigned the ouput shaft to a slip yoke instead of a slip shaft driveshaft I don't know if the redesign required the fluid change.Have them look up the piece on the computer. It's should be a stock item at a large GM dealer, it's somewhere between 20 to 30 bucks. The speedo gears on our 205 only use this o-ring. And it's build into the screw in piece. Aslo check the shaft of the speedo gear input for wear. Oct 16, 2012 · A 75 K10 should have an NP203 chain drive t-case so it can take 10w30 (recommended more for a 203 behind a SM465 4-speed) or Dextron II or III auto trans fluid. The rear diff may need gear oil with limited slip additive, either way I think it's 80W90, same for the front but it will more than likely be an open diff which will take straight 80W90.

Aug 8, 2003 · My case came from a 78 F250 4x4 with 400m and c6 trans. Thats what the owners manual stated. If you look in the haynes repair manual they say 140 w gear oil. If you look in chiltons they say. Dana 21- 50w motor oil. np203: below 32f, 30w motor oil, above 32f, 50 w motor oil. np205: 76-77 50 w motor oil, 78 and later sae 90w gear oil.

Put some black RTV on the transfer case re install the seal housing, (make sure it is clocked correctly) Install the output yolk with a little oil on it to make a good seal with the new seal.
