The wristband, like the key card uses a passive NFC chip that is powered by the vehicle's RFID readers. In order for the passive NFC device (the wristband in this case) to receive enough voltage and current to operate, it's tiny antenna coil (usually embedded around the IC chip) needs to almost touch the low power RFID reader antenna coils in the truck.
On delivery day you can track your vehicle's journey through the Rivian app and upon arrival set it up as a digital key so you can immediately get on the road.
